Sin City!

It occurred to me that this might not really be a thriller but I'm pretty sure that it is. It's one of the best films I've ever seen in my life. There are so many elements to it that make it a gripping and vastly entertaining movie. The way the story is told from the narrative viewpoint of each character, the way that the camera uses colour within a monochrome world to show importance. You can see how each character's story unfolds around someone else's.

Everything is put together amazingly, not surprising with Quentin Tarantino as the special guest director.

Just swotting up on good films really.

Jaws

Jaws is a thriller movie which I have seen a few times now. The one thing that has always stuck out in this movie is the soundtrack which is played whenever peril is forced upon the audience. The sound track alone worries the audience as it is slow and minor. Music plays a very large part in the film. Without it, it would not create suspence and caution to the audience.

Thriller Movies

I have researched some the best all time thriller movies by going to

http://movies.toptenreviews.com/list_thriller.htm

I can use this information to understand what a thriller movie is. I have already seen three of these ten movies but i will do some research on each individual one and there story lines, location and dramatic twists used. I will also see the opening to all these movies to see what sounds and scenery have been set at the beggining.

More research

On friday night I watched the film "Se7en" of my own volition.
It's a bloody good film! Full of tension and suspense, not to mention the gore.
Throughout the film there were many different camera shots and cuts that interested me, for example when Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman are driving through the desert with their suspect. There's a really good shot where the camera seems to be in the middle of the front of the car facing into the back, where the suspect is.
This is the shot.

It's very effective when the killer is sitting there trying to wind up the detectives.

Anyway, just thought i'd put this up here because i thought that this shot really stood out in the film.

Further research

Today's lesson was mostly spent analysing another two intro/title sequences from more thrillers.
The two new openings we watched were of "One hour photo" and "The silence of the lambs".

There were quite large differences between the two. "One hour Photo" began with a very interesting title sequence where the short opening credits slowly wiped across the screen, before flashing like a camera and disappearing. Then there were stark backgrounds with very little colour, the mood was solemn. Then it cut to a flashback and there was colour everywhere, being narrated by Robin Williams' character.

"The silence of the lambs" had a less interesting opening. It was simply three minutes of Joie foster running through a forest while Large, bold lettering flashed up on the screen. It wasn't very interesting and the music seemed to be completely different to the mood.

Either way though, we're taking everything we can get at this stage, the more research and experience we can govern: the better for us as a group!

2 title sequence idea's

I have two ideas that I would like to share for the title sequence.

1) There is the sound of a heartbeat, beating slowly, and with every beat it synchronizes with the video of the titles coming up.

For example: So with one heart beat, "pluto pictures" (or whatever) appears and then fades to black then on the next heartbeat, "starring jack dunn" (or whoever appears) and etc.

2) With some inspiration from this video: (forget the song just the video)

Watch between 15 seconds and 30 seconds.

My idea is that we have the camera looking at the sky at night on a still image and then the titles will appear then we go into the thriller by the camera moving down like in the "meet me halfway" music video.

I know we're in the early stages and havn't even thought about the movie but I'm just inputting some ideas.

This is the sort of thing we're aiming for (maybe)

This is the title sequence from the film "Se7en". I thought that it was a very good idea to have a little bit of thought provoking film followed by an even more thought provoking opening credit-title sequence. the way that the camera keeps cutting to interesting little activites and then cutting out so that the names can pop up looks very effective.

Just a quick one!

Will here!
Even after our first lesson (in which Chaz was absent) we still had a quick brainstorm of ideas.
Jack's idea involved using a forest next to the airstrip where he has his driving lessons to film something Blair Witch-esque.
Min was something a little closer to home. Just a quick idea that popped into my head. At the top of Frambury lane in newport, night time, low camera angled up.
Either way, it's still early days, can't wait to hear Andy and Chaz's input and see whether we can't come up with something interesting.

Hello!

Greetings blogger.com.

You are now joined by Jack, Will, Andy and Chaz. Lucky you.

We have set up this blog in order to portray our ideas and keep you updated on our coursework.

Let's get filming!
